Singers from the famous French brandy-producing town of Cognac, ‘Un Choeur Pour Boala’ performing with Coastal Voices.

The town of Cognac has formed a partnership with Boala, in the African state of Burkina Faso. Members of Cognac’s Conservatory of Music created the choir during a visit to Boala in 2009, to share cultures and use concerts to raise money for local development projects.

Coastal Voices singer Nick Perrin, who has visited Burkina Faso and will be among the people providing accommodation for the French choir during their week-long visit to North Wales, said: “Our Cognac friends have promised us a spirited evening, with a repertoire ranging from the Beatles to Mozart, and Gershwin to traditional African song.”

 “They are doing some great work in the Boala community, especially to help children, so we are delighted to team up with them for this performance.”

Cefn Meiriadog may be a small places but it makes up for it with a thriving village hall and a very keen committee who like to put on musical events. We performed along with the north Wales Saxaphone Choir. Thanks to the committee for inviting us.

Bangor Community Choir are regualr supporters of the Woza Moya Charity. Woza Moya is a community-based NGO located in the Ufafa Valley of rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Their work is invaluable in providing quality care and support for people throughout the Ufafa Valley infected and affected by HIV and AIDS and poverty, with a particular focus on orphaned children and their caregivers. Thanks to pauline down for inviting us to join them in a fundraising concert. We were moved and delighted by the varied programme.

What better combination than live music and good food. Well done to the conwy Feast team for creating this fab event. Here we are singing on the front in conwy. Amazing weather for October too, who says it’s always raining in Wales??

Sing for Water was born out of an idea from Helen Chadwick in association with London’s Thames Festival, singer travel from all over the Uk to take part and help raise funds and awareness for the charity WaterAid. The concert is on the South Bank of the Thames in the Scoop next to City Hall and in sight of Tower Bridge. This year was no exception with approaching 800 singers. Amazing work by Roxane Smith and Michael Harper to whip us all into shape, no mean feat with such a big choir. There’s something incredibly special about being amongst so many people gathering with one purpose and ‘one voice’.

Lleisiau’r Byd at Coastal Voices’ WaterAid Fundraiser 2009

Around 80 singers from across North Wales are getting together to sing a collection of songs to raise money for charity WaterAid. The event, ‘Sing for Water Llandudno’, starts with the singing at 4.30pm and then gives people the chance to get their dancing shoes on as a ceilidh takes over from 8pm.

Coastal Voices would like to thankall the performers who have given their time and their money to be here, including Bangor Community Choir, dolgellau Choir, Lleisiau’r Byd from Porthmadog and African Link Drummers! Not forgetting: the staff at the Town Hall for their help; Decantae spring water for their generous donation of bottled water for the event; the local Rotary club, for organising and running the bar; all the individuals and local businesses who have generously donated raffle prizes; Victoria and Mel at WaterAid for their guidance and support.

Thanks to everyone for their support and help with this event. We raised a magnificent £4,500!! This will really make a difference to WaterAid’s work.

Where did five years go? singing is such good fun  the time has flown past. Thanks to everyone for coming to the birthday celebrations and to Suzanne for the quite stupendous and delicious birthday cake, made to match our logo with blueberries for the sea and melon and mango for the sun set. It was a real work of art and tasted amazing too!

Always happy to support local charities and good causes, Here we are in Rhyl singing for Deaf Awareness and a few of our members looking very glam also performed- The furry Cherries. A good night was had by all.

Thanks to the Reverend Shirley Griffiths for her invite to perform in St Michael’s Church. Our repertoire took us through the musical traditions of six continents and more than a handful of religions.
